Washington University in St. Louis is committed to making higher education more accessible to first generation students.

To help talented high school students from our own region succeed at the college of their choice, Washington University launched the College Prep Program in 2014. The College Prep Program is an immersive, on-campus learning experience at Washington University. Incoming scholars live on campus for two weeks the summer following freshman year and for three weeks the summers following sophomore and junior year. College Prep scholars also attend workshops, lectures, and campus activities throughout the school year. Graduates of the program leave ready to excel — academically and socially — in college. Furthermore, we continue to engage our alumni CPP scholars through programming sessions, college visits, and on-going individualized support.

Know a candidate?

Do you know a 9th grade scholar in the St. Louis region who loves to learn?

The College Prep Program employs Washington University graduate and undergraduate students as administrative and programmatic support for scholars during the summer academy and academic year sessions. Additionally, alumni CPP scholars who are enrolled in colleges and universities across the country are able to serve as staff members.

The program is free and there is no cost to the scholar or family.

The goal of the Washington University College Prep Program is to prepare scholars for success at a selective college or university that best matches their interest and needs. Application to Washington University is not required and admission to Washington University is not guaranteed.

WUCPP is nothing short of exhilarating. Seeing and living with kids like yourself who possess a solid work ethic and intellectually gifted minds over the span of a couple weeks is amazing. This program leads us down the right path to allow that distant dream to become our reality one day. It’s what makes this program so special, and I’m blessed to be a part of it.”

— Dominic Cammarata, Lutheran North High School

Thank you Washington University for helping my little girl to grab hold to her dream and all the possibilities that come with it.”

— Patrice Fuller, Mother of Cohort 5 Scholar

“The Wash U College Prep Program provides me with an experience that is like no other. I really get an insight into what it feels like to be a college student (including the long walks across campus). I love this program and everyone makes me feel welcomed and I have made relationships that will last a lifetime.”
