September 23rd Enrichment Session Options:

There are two sessions to choose from on Saturday, September 23, 2023. The sessions will be held on campus from 10:00 a.m. to noon, with drop off from 9:30-9:45 a.m. and pick up at 12:15 p.m. Additional logistics with specific details on where to park or be dropped off will be sent out two days prior to the session.

Option 1: Mental Health Session 1: Balance – Life management of academic and social responsibilities

Series Topic: Building Resilience with B.A.E. (Balance — Accountability — Self-Regulation)

In this interactive, 3-part workshop series, participants will build upon discussion points from the Mental Health and Wellness workshop which occurred during Summer Academy 2023 with Dr. Ericka Cables.

  • Session 2 in October: Accountability – Learning strategies to hold yourself accountable to do what you know is best for you
  • Session 3 in November: Emotional Regulation – Effectively responding to emotional experiences

Option 2: Cohort 8 ONLY: Common App with Justin Wilson of the Washington University Office of Admissions

Join Justin Wilson, Associate Director of Admissions, for a session on completing the Common App. This session is only open to Cohort 8 seniors.

October 7th Enrichment Session Options:

There is one session to choose from on Saturday, October 7th, 2023. The session will be held on campus from 10:00 a.m. to noon, with drop off from 9:30-9:45 a.m. and pick up at 12:15 p.m. Additional logistics with specific details on where to park or be dropped off will be sent out two days prior to the session.

Option 1: ACT Refresher

Planning to take the October ACT and want to refresh a bit before you do? Join College Prep Staff and a tutor from the Kleitz Education Group for a refresh session to help you feel confident going into the October ACT.

October 14th Academic Session Options:

There are three sessions to choose from on Saturday, October 14th, 2023. The sessions will be held on campus from 10:00 a.m. to noon, with drop off from 9:30-9:45 a.m. and pick up at 12:15 p.m. Additional logistics with specific details on where to park or be dropped off will be sent out two days prior to the session.

Option 1: Business: Session 2 with BradENstl

Hear from local Social Media Strategist and St. Louis influencer BradENstl on how he has scaled a new business venture using social media and gained over 10,000 followers.

Option 2: Humanities presented by the WashU Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity, & Equity

The goal of this track is to provide an understanding of race and ethnicity. How do we define these two terms? How are they the same? How are they different? How do these factors shape our society? Both in the US and from an international or global perspective? We will discuss how the study of race and ethnicity is important to improving our understanding of how different people experience the world around them.

Option 3: STEM: Neuroscience

As an extension on the neuroscience learning that cohorts 9 and 10 received during Summer Academy 2022 and 2023, join instructor Katie Lefton to continue learning all about the brain.

October 28th Enrichment Session Options:

There are two sessions to choose from on Saturday, October 28th, 2023. Option 1: Essential Skills for Success Session 1

Introduction and Self-Exploration: College Prep scholars will work on building a community with each other. In addition, College Prep scholars will identify characteristics about themselves that will propel them towards choosing a career pathway and having healthy relationships! Interactive activities and conversations will be integrated throughout the workshop.

Option 2: Mental Health Session 2: Accountability – Learning strategies to hold yourself accountable to do what you know is best for you

Option 3: McKelvey School of Engineering Tour, Competition Observation, and Lunch (10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)

Come and observe as teams from local high schools compete in the Gateway Arch National Park Engineering Contest and present their designs. During your visit, you will also hear from an engineering speaker, receive a tour of the McKelvey School of Engineering on the Washington University campus, learn more about how your school could send a team to participate in next year’s contest, and attend a lunch with the contest participants and other CPP scholars.
